Heritage at risk

Vila do Bispo’s Câmara President has said he is against a proposed measure to demolish an unsafe Roman bridge that leads to the Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe chapel.

Gilberto Viegas said: “The bridge is historical heritage that should be preserved, not destroyed. It was the lack of conservation that led to it becoming unsafe for vehicles.”

He added that because

the county is within a natural park “even paving a track is hard work, but it seems that to knock down a historical bridge is not a problem”.
