Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) has been made an Honorary Member of the Social and Cultural Association of Almancil (ASCA).
The Club was recently presented with the award by the President of the Board of ASCA, Hermes Alberto, in recognition of the support the club has given to ASCA over the last six years.
The support has included the presentation of wheelchairs, clothing, furniture and, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Loulé, funds were raised to provide the association with a van for the distribution of meals to people unable to provide for themselves, whether for financial reasons or because of infirmity.
ASCA, founded by local people, has been providing a domiciliary support service, particularly to the elderly who are unable to support themselves, since 1992.
They provide a drop-in centre where people who are in unfortunate situations, can visit during the day and be provided with a meal, interactive activities, hygiene supplies, a laundry service and more.
Whilst the centre is part-funded by the Government and the local Freguesia, the association still heavily relies on charitable donations and fund-raising activities.
