Helping hands needed at the RDA

Organisers of Riding for the Disabled in the Algarve (RDA) are looking for volunteers to help with their ongoing charity work.

From the end of September the RDA will be resuming sessions for physically and mentally disabled children and young adults in their specially designed sessions that use the horses movements to help with problems.

Hippo therapy and riding therapy allows riders to interact with horses and sessions focus on individual needs of the riders from communication and concentration to motivation and movement and the RDA offers sessions to riders with disabilities ranging from cerebral palsy to autism and Downs Syndrome.

Voluntary helpers of all nationalities are needed by the RDA to help to lead horses or walk alongside less able riders during weekly sessions held on Thursday and Friday mornings at the Pinetrees Riding Centre near Almancil, with lessons lasting for approximately one hour each.

An introductory session for volunteers will be held at the Pinetrees Riding Centre on September 27.

Volunteers do not need to have had any experience with either horses or disabled people as ongoing training sessions will be provided.

The introductory session is open to everyone and will start at 10am for experienced and novice volunteers.

For further information about becoming a volunteer for the RDA, please call 919 060 604 or 964 027 677.
