Helping Hands charity delivers much-needed equipment to Algarve firefighters

In October, local charity Helping Hands in The Algarve organised the delivery of a consignment of firefighting kit to the Bombeiros Sapadores de Faro, consisting of 47 fire fighters’ tunics and trousers, 45 pairs of boots and 20 pairs of gloves.

The kit was sourced at CAFFRA, a non-governmental organisation based in the UK, which supports civil protection projects around the world. Algarve Express transported the equipment from CAFFRA in Grantham, Lincolnshire to Faro at no cost to Helping Hands.

The Bombeiros Sapadores de Faro spent time preparing the kit for use and assessing which fire stations were most in need of this type of support. On Thursday, December 13, members of Helping Hands in The Algarve were invited to the Bombeiros Sapadores de Faro to be part of the official presentation of the equipment to President José Tiago and Commander José Ribeiros from the Alcoutim Bombeiros.

The Bombeiros Sapadores de Faro were represented by Commander José Tomás Valente and Equipment Officers Márcio Téxeira and Eduardo Silva. From Helping Hands, Jan and Phil Garner, Richard Brice and Roger Marshall were made to feel very welcome by the firefighters from both Faro and Alcoutim. The Alcoutim Bombeiros were extremely grateful for the effective teamwork of the Bombeiros Sapadores de Faro and Helping Hands in The Algarve which had resulted in the donation of a large consignment of equipment to their station.
