A benefit lunch was recently held on Praia do Ancão to raise money for the owners of Paradise beach restaurant, which was completely destroyed by a fire last month.
The blaze, which appears to have started in the roof, quickly consumed the wooden building and by the time the local fire brigade arrived, there was little they could do, except keep the blaze under control to stop the spread to neighbouring restaurants.
Local developers Dunas Douradas Beach Club and two of the neighbouring restaurants, Tá Certo and Izzy’s, immediately offered to help, both financially and to organise the benefit lunch that was described as a success.
More than 100 customers and friends turned up and helped raise a total of €6,000 for the Portuguese family.

Atelier do Sul Design Consultants offered their help in getting a flyer designed, as did the Algarve Resident in publishing an advertisement announcing the lunch.
The money has gone towards the architectural project required to get planning permission for the rebuild.
The new Paradise Restaurant will be the first on Garrão beach that will be fully wheelchair friendly inside, adding to the wooden access ramp to the beach that they had already constructed.
Owners Eduardo and Florbela wish to express their deepest gratitude to the sponsors for having taken such an initiative and to all those who attended.
They hope to welcome them soon at the new restaurant.
