This week, Project New Discoveries (PND) is introducing you to one of its members. Xana is a young 12-year-old girl who was raised in Burgau, near Lagos. At seven years old, she became part of the association and began attending its activities.
She says PND brought her “a lot of fun and new friendships” at its “really cool summer camps”.
Now she is one of our best helpers: she likes to organise the younger children’s activities, is always ready to cooperate and shows a great sense of responsibility. This teenager also has a huge talent for art. This Christmas, she even prepared a beautiful Christmas tree made of green plastic bottles.
But Xana has a huge dream. “I want to be a PND counsellor and help other young people like me,” she said.
To help make her dream come true, PND needs to find sponsors who can assist Xana, and other underprivileged children. Funds would be used to send children to a PND camp, educational activities or a counsellor’s training course.
Allow young people like Xana, who are unable to pay for this training, to became a counsellor. If you are interested, you can also register for our counsellors’ training course, which will take place from March 22 to 28. The course is run by PND, with solid theory and practical subjects, all extremely valuable for our future youth leaders.

Created 19 years ago, Project New Discoveries is an Algarve-based, non-profit association, whose main goal is to help underprivileged children and youngsters by promoting its core value – integration.
It organises several activities throughout the year, such as residential and nonresidential summer camps, environmental education, school support services, arts and crafts, gardening, biking, athletics and dancing, which take place in the PND office in Burgau, near Lagos, and at its camp site at the Vale da Lama organic farm.
