If you needed an excuse to stay home and decorate for Christmas this weekend, the next few days’ weather forecast fits the bill.
Portugal’s Civil Protection Authority (ANPC) has put out a national weather warning predicting heavy rain and strong winds (up to 70km per hour) throughout the country topped by the likelihood of snow on the mountain ranges of Serra da Estrela, Gerês and Marão.
The extreme conditions have prompted ANPC to alert people to the risks posed by frost, floods, the likelihood of very rough seas, and the possibility of trees and other structures being blown onto roads.
Warnings target drivers – adding that people should not park near coastal areas – and stress that sea-related activities should be kept to a minimum. Even walking beside the sea is not advised.
