Heavy rain floods parts of Algarve

Rain poured down on the Algarve on Tuesday afternoon (November 28), flooding several parts of the region.

Civil protection authorities registered nearly 40 calls for help between 3.40pm, the time when it started pouring, and nightfall.

Most of the cases were in Albufeira which just two years ago was devastated by a flood. A video posted on social media shows a flow of water running onto Albufeira’s Inatel beach due to the rain.

Floods were also reported in Armação de Pêra, Portimão, Lagos, Lagoa, Loulé, Faro, Olhão and parts of the Alentejo but none of the cases were described as being very serious.

According to weather forecasts, mainland Portugal is not expecting any kind of rain in the coming days which is bad news for a country currently experiencing one of the worst droughts in its history.
