Railway staff were thanking their lucky stars when they caught two men ‘red handed’ stealing vital control boxes that regulate signals and track changes on the Alentejo Line.
The loss of the boxes could have put passengers’ lives at risk, not to mention have caused an accident – but despite swift police action, Correio da Manhã newspaper reports that both men walked free after appearing in court in Setúbal. Their plan was reportedly to sell the copper wiring and cables present in the boxes.
