PORTUGAL HAS been highlighted in a new European Union report as “struggling to deliver adequate levels of care” and has been placed near the bottom of the healthcare league table.
Johan Hjertqvist, president of Brussels-based Health Consumer Powerhouse (HCP), the organisation that carried out the report, said that Portugal, along with Malta and Cyprus, were “playing in the losers league”.
The HCP report uses public statistics and 34 quality indicators to rank countries and placed the Dutch healthcare system at the top of the tables.
