Yet another occasion has seen health minister Manuel Pizarro ‘surprised’ today, in the form of a protest by residents in Serpa outside their local hospital. The hospital is currently run by Santa Casa da Misericórdia which is doing so in a relatively half hearted fashion. Last week, a man died outside it, as the casualty department shut overnight… Locals want the SNS health service to take the hospital over “immediately”. Recovering from his momentary reaction of surprise, Mr Pizarro said “Serpa residents will have good news, very soon”.
