Health board launches awareness campaign as Portugal’s drowning death toll tops 40

At a time when the number of people who have drowned in Portugal this year has already topped 40, the national health board (DGS) has launched an awareness campaign advising people to be especially cautious at beaches, pools and other bathing areas.

As the board explains, many cases of drowning happen “very fast and silently” and can be avoided by taking cautionary measures, such as swimming in safe and supervised areas.
