Head of nurses’ order, 13 officials accused of fiddling travel expenses

Head of the Portuguese Order of Nurses Ana Rita Cavaco, plus 13 other officials have been accused of crimes of embezzlement and the forgery of documents in an alleged fraudulent scheme over the payment of travel expenses, which public prosecutors have described as having involved “completely fanciful scenarios”.  At stake is the alleged misappropriation by the defendants of roughly €61,000 in total, of which Ana Rita Cavaco herself is accused of misappropriating around €10,600.
