Head for the hills this weekend

Olive oil is taking centre stage at this year’s Feira da Serra (Mountain Fair) in São Brás de Alportel, taking place from tonight (Friday) until Sunday.

The process of making olive oil will be explained at the fair, being held at the EB 2 3 Poeta Bernardo de Passos school, and includes tastings of different olive oil varieties tonight.

A market selling vegetable and fruit has also been set up for the event, while local artisans will be showing their works during the weekend.

Other highlights of the event are a fashion show and horse riding demonstrations including Sevillana dancing on Saturday.

Visitors will also be able to indulge in typical gastronomy with dishes served at the event using olive oil as the main ingredient.

Opening hours are from 7pm to 2am on Friday and Saturday and from 7pm to 1am on Sunday. Day tickets cost €3.5 per person or €7 for a three-day ticket.
