Harley Davidsons invade Tavira

Hundreds of gleaming machines from all corners of Europe brought an air of excitement to the normally tranquil setting of one of the Algarve’s prettiest towns last weekend.

There was a carnival atmosphere, including a spectacular air show, on Saturday afternoon followed by a torch-lit procession through the town in the evening.

Live music from bands Teddy Boys, SPOTT and the Guanipera Blues Band helped to make the second Annual Convention a great success.

Harley Davidson Road King owner Nicky Hamilton, originally from South Yorkshire but a resident of Santa Bárbara for the past 25 years, said: “This has been a tremendous weekend. We have been welcomed with open arms and I’ve met so many interesting people.”

Bob Pooley from West London, Dave Leitch (Canterbury, Kent) and Chris Williams (Birmingham) had biked from the UK and were enjoying a drink with locals as they soaked up the early summer sun.

Mark Stephens, assistant director of the Algarve Chapter, was delighted with the turnout and is already making plans for next year’s event in Tavira. Chris Wright
