Hard road for Portimonense

Portimonense’s first competitive match of the 2014/15 playing period ended in a 4-1 opening League Cup group phase defeat at Viseu.
The hosts dominated proceedings throughout the encounter and were already enjoying a comfortable two-goal lead by the time Mou Kanazaki pulled one back from the penalty spot shortly after the interval.
Atletico went further ahead after Portimonense defender Salvador diverted the ball past his own keeper before Tiago Gonçalves rounded off the scoring in the 78th minute.
On this evidence new coach Vitor Maças has his work cut out shaping the team, which nonetheless still features 14 members of last season’s squad in addition to newcomers Fidelis, Mauricio, Rodrigo and Acacio.
Hopefully further progress is made during Wednesday evening’s second League Cup tie at Sporting Covilhã ahead of this Sunday’s concluding home clash with Freamunde.
Thereafter football league action proper is set to get under way next weekend when Covilhã are coincidentally again the opponents – this time in the Algarve.
