Harassment case

A CASE against Tavira Câmara President Macário Correia for alleged mistreatment and coercion of a member of staff has been dropped by the Public Ministry due to lack of evidence.

According to Lusa news agency, the case was pushed forward by the male câmara worker’s lawyer, Vera Thellier, who is incidentally also involved in another case which sees the Tavira Mayor accused of sexually harassing a female staff member in the câmara’s legal department. Macário Correia responded to the allegations by saying that the lawyer is using these cases as revenge following the câmara’s 2005 embargo on an illegal construction in her name.
