VILA REAL de Santo António (VRSA) celebrates its 231st birthday on Sunday May 13 with a historical pageant organised by the câmara.
It is the sixth time such an event has been staged and will see VRSA go back in time to the 18th and 19th centuries to remember such important Portuguese figures as Marquês de Pombal, Camilo Castelo Branco, Eça de Queiroz and Almeida Garrett.
Beginning at 4pm, the pageant will take the form of a parade down Avenida da República, ruas Conselheiro Frederico Ramirez, Eça de Queiroz, Ministro Duarte Pacheco and 5 de Outubro, concluding in Praça Marquês de Pombal.
At 10pm, there will be a show in Praça Marquês de Pombal featuring various Fado singers, which will be followed by a firework display.
