Happy Bears spreading Christmas cheer

Members of Rotary Club Estoi Palace International (RCEPI) started crafting ‘Happy Bears’ at home during lockdown and have continued since.

RCEPI is now asking the public to join their talented crafts team and help make Christmas better for the children at the Refúgio Aboim Ascensão in Faro and APEXA in Albufeira. The Happy Bears are crocheted, knitted or sewn and will be donated to the two associations this Christmas.

Or, you can sponsor one of the hand-crafted bears (visit www.rotaryestoipalace.org) and donations will be used to buy something on the children’s ‘wish list’.

The Refúgio Aboim Ascensão in Faro looks after abandoned, abused and neglected children between the ages of three days and eight years.

APEXA, Associação de Apoio à Pessoa Excepcional do Algarve, is based in Albufeira. It was founded 18 years ago by Nuno Neto when his son was born with Spina bifida. Currently, they are supporting families with children who need physical and educational therapies for their disabilities and are also teaching parents how to cope with the responsibilities these measures bring.

“The mission of Rotary Club Estoi Palace International is to help those in need in the community,” said a spokesperson for the Rotary Club.

“By sponsoring a Happy Bear, you are effectively sponsoring a child and you will have the opportunity to follow up on what a difference your donation can make to a child’s life.”
