Handball prospects to face off in Lagoa

Handball tournament is part of Lagoa’s 250th anniversary celebrations

Dozens of young athletes are expected in Lagoa for the ‘International Handball Tournament 250 Years of the City of Lagoa’, which will take place at the Jacinto Correio pavilion between December 20 and 23.

The event is part of the municipality’s 250th anniversary celebrations and will attract several under-14, under-16 and under-18 male handball teams.

Organisers, which include the municipal council and local club Lagoa Académico Clube, say the goal is for the event to be different this year, not just because of its new name but also in terms of its size. Thus the goal was to attract prestigious international and national handball teams, they add.

All in all, 16 teams and 250 athletes and staff will be taking part in the tournament, with teams flying over from as far as Denmark and Hungary.

Matches will take place throughout the day with free admission.
