Lauren Slater and her mum, Pamela Twentyman, moved to the Algarve in 2015 and, in the midst of a global pandemic, have become the region’s ultimate mother & daughter candle making duo.
Having always had a love for great scented candles they found that in Portugal it was nearly impossible to find any that were strongly fragranced and made from natural products. So they decided to attempt to make their own. Not only did the ‘experiment’ went well, but amazed by how great they were, they started to give them away to friends and family, who were equally impressed. And so the Algarve Candle Company was born!
Created from a desire to use natural ingredients in craft-making to fabricate a luxury product people can gift or enjoy in their homes, their main focus is to use all natural and recycled products in their candles whilst having them sustain a strong scent within any room they are present or lit in.
“We only started up this summer. We make soy candles and gift hampers that despite being luxurious are not very expensive. They are all vegan-friendly and handmade, with love, from natural products, and our best selling scent is English Pear & Freesia”, Lauren tells us. Running the company together from Boliqueime, mother and daughter sell their candles throughout the Algarve and to the UK. And with Christmas just around the corner, it has been hard to keep up with all the orders.
