Aljezur || This year’s Tony Wood Award, presented by Aljezur International School, has been won by year 9 student Hal Nix.
The award is given in memory of retired fire chief Tony Wood, a valued friend and supporter of the school who died in December 2011 following a short battle with cancer.
Every year students are asked to nominate three of their peers who they feel have shown compassion and kindness throughout the academic year and, as always, Tony’s family flew to the Algarve from their home in Liverpool to present the award.
“I really didn’t expect to win and was completely shocked when my name was announced,” said Hal. “I knew Tony as he was a friend of my mum’s and I feel honoured that my friends and other students at school have voted for me.”
Tony’s wife Sue said: “The school meant so much to Tony and he would be thrilled to know that Hal has grown into such a delightful and popular young man.”
