Hackers target Novo Banco and Bank of Portugal

On the day Novo Banco revealed its new logo, Internet hackers connected with the Anonymous movement splashed hundreds of email addresses from the bank across its facebook page.
Under the slogan “We’re not paying for any more banks”, the cyber pirates’ message was: “Complain as much as you like”.
The idea, claims Público, was that customers of Novo Banco could send letters of complaint to key personnel.
Also made available were the emails of staff at the Bank of Portugal, as well as crucial data pertaining to 2700 members of staff attached to the Ministry of Agriculture.
As far as Público could make out on Friday, none of the institutions were prepared to talk about the attacks – indeed Novo Banco had not even noticed it.
“Everything is working normally”, press officer Paulo Tomé told reporters.
This latest attack comes only two months after Anonymous went public with emails of hundreds of employees of Portuguese banks – BES included – and only four months since the group hacked into the Attorney General’s office, revealing personal email addresses of as many as 2000 magistrates.
Friday’s exposure is believed to have ‘stolen’ the passwords and telephone numbers of thousands of government employees – but at the time Público was running the story, PJ cyber crimefighters said they had no knowledge of it.
