Police in Portugal and Spain are reported to be hunting an Algarvian drug trafficker who shot a Spanish citizen in the foot in a day-time shoot-out in Huelva.
The Ayamonte border was closed as the authorities tried to corner the trafficker who went on the run after firing a number of shots in Avenida Parque de Isla Cristina – but he eluded them and is thought to be holed out ‘somewhere in Spain’.
According to newspaper reports, the shootout took place between two groups of individuals and is thought to have been a “settling of scores”.
The man shot in the foot may well have been involved in the skirmish, but for now the investigation is said to be centring on a black and white Audi with Spanish plates found abandoned at the scene.
The car is riddled with bullet holes and various shell casings were recovered from the street.
