Gulbenkian Museum marks 50th anniversary this year

LISBON’S CALOUSTE Gulbenkian Foundation celebrates its 50th anniversary in July. The birthday celebrations include a vast programme of cultural events, including exhibitions, shows, films and forums.

“It has been 50 years marked by profound and extreme changes in Portugal and the institution as a whole,” said Gulbenkian Foundation president, Rui Vilar.

The commemorations, which kick off on July 18 and continue until 2007, have the objective of paying homage to the great Armenian art collector and oil magnate, also known as Mr. Five Per Cent, who donated his collection to the Portuguese State upon his death in 1955.
