BRITISH TELEVISION gardener Charlie Dimmock lent her green fingers to the official presentation of a new retirement village for the over 55s, The Savannahs, in Almancil last week.
The star of BBC’s Ground Force programme joined Civil Governor Dr António Pina, Managing Director of The Savannahs, Chris Collins, president of the Junta de Freguesia de Almamcil, João Martins and Hélder Martins, president of the Algarve Tourism Association on March 20, for the project presentation and tree planting ceremony.
The Savannahs will be home to those who wish to live in a secure and managed village environment, with many of the gardens and water features designed by Charlie Dimmock.
The Savannahs will also offer sports and leisure facilities, 24-hour medical care and security along with 250 one, two or three bedroom apartments.
The site will include a piazza with supermarket, shops and boutique, a club house, bar and restaurant, indoor and outdoor pools, putting course, tennis courts and bowling greens, a spa and medical facilities and a nursing home.
The development of The Savannahs is expected to be phased over three years. The first phase being the piazza with the houses and apartments located within the circular village street.
