Grenade discovered on Meia Praia beach deactivated by Naval experts

The discovery by beachgoers yesterday of a mortar grenade on the sands of Lagos’ Meia Praia beach led to the scrambling of a team of explosive disposal experts from the Navy. The device was deactivated in the presence of Maritime Police who went on to warn of the “inherent danger of these kind of explosives that occasionally are found along our coast”. Any kind of suspicion of an explosive device, “generally found in situations of extreme corrosion”, should be communicated to the authorities, they stressed, without being handled or moved.
