GROUPS OF environmentalists, political party members and residents are up in arms over the proposals to complete the last phase of the Lisbon orbital road, or CRIL.
They say that the stretch of proposed road at Buraca/Pontinha and the public competitive tendering bid for the work is illegal.
Contra lobbies claim the works violate the Environmental Impact Declaration (DIA) and that is why a commission representing residents in Santa Cruz de Benfica and Damaia have officially lodged their complaints to Lisbon Administrative and Fiscal Court to have an injunction served.
“We want a road that serves everybody and not one that will cut off and isolate two neighbourhoods as this plan will do,” says Lisbon Cllr and lawyer, José Sá Fernandes.
