Greens accuse authorities over sand

GREEN PARTY MP, Isabel Castro, has submitted an official complaint to the Ministry for the Environment and Planning about illegal sand extraction from the Ria Formosa.

The Greens claim that the port authority is responsible and the Instituto Portuário e dos Transportes Marítimos (IPTM), “illegally licensed the extraction and received a considerable profit in return”.The Party says the behaviour is particularly worrying as “instead of adding sand to vulnerable islands in order to protect the safety of the fishing communities like Fuzeta, the IPTM is selling it.” The Greens also accuse the ministry of sitting back and doing nothing about a situation that they consider “very serious”.
