Green light for municipal police in Lagoa

The path is finally clear for the creation of a municipal police force in Lagoa after the project was approved during the special Council of Ministers held in Faro last Thursday (March 2).

Says Lagoa Council, the municipal police force will feature 24 agents led by a commander and a deputy commander.

Its “priority mission” will be to make sure that all laws and regulations are being followed throughout the entire borough, namely in the “areas of environmental protection, commercial establishments, public space occupation, traffic and parking, advertising and cultural and sports events”.

The council guarantees that the municipal police force “will not interfere” with the work of criminal police forces; in the case of Lagoa, the GNR.

“We want to have a modern and effective municipal service,” said Lagoa Mayor Luís Encarnação. “It is important to recall that the creation of the municipal police is a fundamental step in a touristic municipality,” he added.
