LAST YEAR, 59,000 tonnes of recyclable materials were separated from Lisbon’s rubbish, which represents 18 per cent of all solid urban waste and an increase of 11 per cent in recycling compared to 2006.
These figures were released by Lisbon Câmara’s urban hygiene and solid waste department which also revealed that the quantity of plastic recycled rose by the largest amount, 21.4 per cent, compared with figures for the previous year.
Revenue obtained from the sale of recyclable waste was around 2.85 million euros, a 40 per cent increase compared to 2006.
