Greek siblings Alexander and George Kavas claimed gold ahead of French and Italian opposition at the European 420-class Sailing Championships in Tavira.
Local challengers Luis Niza and Paulo Batista took an honourable eighth place while Francisca Martins and Ana Oliveira finished an equally meritous sixth behind Italians Cristina Celi and Silvia Morini in the women’s competition.
During the closing ceremony, the organisers announced that Tavira had won the right to stage the World Youth Championships in 2014.
