Greater Lisbon outbreaks linked to “birthday parties and weddings”

Portugal’s national health board (DGS) has revealed that nine Covid-19 outbreaks in the Lisbon e Vale do Tejo region have been linked to “birthday parties, weddings and other social events”.

At least 194 cases are believed to be directly connected to several social events, attended by over 1,000 people in total.

Out of the nine outbreaks, two are linked to a wedding attended by 158 people – 41 of whom tested positive for Covid-19 later, reports Expresso newspaper, citing DGS.

The largest outbreak is linked to a birthday party reportedly attended by 544 people, 66 of whom contracted the virus.
