Great golf and Gala dinner

The 2004 annual Charity Golf Tournament and Gala Dinner took place in Vilamoura recently, with Her Majesty’s Ambassador Dame Glynne Evans as guest of honour. Now, in its seventh year, the major event has, so far, raised in excess of 190,000 euros. The 2004 event beat all records and raised an estimated 50,000 euros, resulting in a rolling total of over 240,000 euros going to different charities across the Algarve. This year all the funds raised will go to the Associação Cultural e de Apoio Social de Olhão.

There were approximately 400 attendees at the Gala Dinner and 200 willing players turned up in miserable weather to play golf and support this worthy cause. Various prizes were given out during dinner, including a prize for the ladies’ longest drive. However, the fundraising didn’t just stop at the golf tournament and there were many opportunities during the evening to add to the final figure, including auctions and various other donation opportunities.

“The evening is proving to be a huge success,” Constantino Jordan, Executive Board Director of Marina de Vilamoura, told us at the event. “We are hoping to beat last year’s total of just over 40,000 euros.” This they achieved and now, while the final count is being made, the organisers can pat themselves on the back for yet another well organised and fun evening in the aid of charity. Details of how the money is spent will be published in The Resident later this year.
