With more than 30 years in the fish and chip business, Paul Beahan and his wife Lorraine have recently taken over Oliver’s British pub and restaurant in the heart of Praia da Rocha.
Having moved to the Algarve five years ago from Plymouth in the UK, Paul and Lorraine have now decided to run their own establishment, offering visitors and the expat community a little taste of home.
“We have three menus; one for breakfast, another for lunches and snacks and a dinner menu offering customers typical English and Irish food,” said Paul.
Traditional dishes featured on the menus include a homemade soup of the day, fish, chips and mushy peas, steak and kidney pie, ploughman’s lunch and jacket potatoes.
“Our Sunday roasts are very popular, as are our full English and vegetarian breakfasts and we do a traditional Devonshire cream tea,” said Paul.
As well as great food, Oliver’s also has a range of drinks including alcopops, soft drinks and beers such as Boddingtons, Carlsberg, Guinness, Fosters, Corona and more.
“We like to make our customers feel welcome and always have time to talk to them,” said Paul.
“The pub can seat around 70 customers and we are happy to cater for parties, birthdays, christenings and other events.”
Paul and Lorraine are keen to welcome the whole family and have a special children’s menu offering a free drink and ice cream with a main meal as well as a loyalty discount scheme for regular customers who live in the Algarve.
Oliver’s, located in Edifício Rocha Mar nº2, just off the main strip in Praia da Rocha, is open seven days a week from 10am until 2.30pm and from 4.30pm “until the last customer leaves”.
