An evening of entertainment showcasing a wide variety of artists in aid of charity is taking place on November 22 at the Lagoa Auditorium.
Ian Carfrae will be the compere for the evening and will introduce the array of entertainers displaying the quality of talent available here in the Algarve.
Money raised will be donated to a day care centre for the elderly and to the Donkey Sanctuary, both in the village of Estombar in the Lagoa council.
The little-known day care centre for the elderly, a much-needed facility, initiated by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, has grown from very small beginnings due to the efforts of the hard working members of its direction committee and staff.
Money raised has been used to acquire neighbouring properties, which has transformed the centre into a place where senior citizens can spend time among friends of their own generation, go on outings and where working families can be sure their loved ones are well taken care of in their absence.
The large modern kitchen also provides a “Meals on Wheels” facility to 300 housebound people, not only in their own parish of Estombar but also in Parchal and Ferragudo.
Many of the elderly are suffering from long-term illnesses and need the 24 hour medical and nursing attention provided.
Funds are needed for ongoing repairs and to buy curtains to put up around beds.
The Donkey Sanctuary is well known for the loving care volunteers bestow on donkeys when their working days are over and is also a sanctuary for the hundreds of dogs and cats that are rescued, cared for and found new homes every year.
The sanctuary has many needs in order to carry on with its work, so during the evening of entertainment a raffle will be held with all money raised from it reverting to the Donkey Sanctuary.
The bar will open at 7.30pm on November 22, with the performance starting at 8.30pm.
