Culture || A performance by Grammy-winning fado singer Carlos do Carmo is the highlight of a long list of events that Faro’s Teatro das Figuras theatre has planned for September.
Nearly two months after becoming the first Portuguese artist to win what is arguably the world’s most prestigious music award, the 74-year-old will be taking the theatre’s stage on September 13 at 9.30pm, with tickets costing between €20 and €25.
But this is only one of the shows that the theatre has planned for this month.
Only a couple of days earlier, on September 11, a piano recital by Francisco Rita will include pieces from legendary composers such as Bach, Mozart and Chopin, as well as his own compositions.
Dance lovers will also be in for a treat, as a festival entitled ‘Dance, Dance, Dance’ will bring a workshop and four performances to the theatre between September 17 and 27 on every Thursday and Saturday.
And although it is technically in October, composer and pianist António Pinho Vargas will be celebrating the International Music Day (October 1) by performing some of the tunes he’s written throughout the years, although improvisation will be a big part of the show.
Foreign residents may be more familiar with the theatre now after it sold out for the premiere of ‘The Right Juice’, a low-budget full-length movie filmed in the Algarve (see article on pages 20 and 21).
