THE NUMBER of graduates looking for work in Portugal had risen by 17 per cent by the end of May against the same period in 2005. It brings the total of jobless graduates to 38,057, according to figures released by the Institute of Professional Employment and Training.
At the end of May, 5,535 people were signed up at job centres and employment agencies, while 67 per cent of graduates on agency books were women. Those with only a basic primary education form the largest group of unemployed (152,948), while the number of overall unemployed in all categories fell by 2.8 per cent compared with the same period in 2005.
At the end of May, the total number of people out of work and actively seeking jobs totalled 457,009 (13,265 less than the same period in 2005).
All regions in Portugal registered a fall in the number of unemployed with the exception of the Azores, where it went up by one per cent.
