Government toll reports needed

Dear Editor,

“Road accidents on EN125 up by 30% since introduction of tolls on A22” (Algarve Resident, February 10 edition).

If that statement, which you report the anti-toll protesters as proclaiming on their posters, is correct, it should be blazoned across your front page, not tucked away at the bottom of page 2.

The government should be asked to comment on this totally expected result of their folly in introducing the tolls. They should also be asked to tell us how much revenue they are actually getting from the tolls and how far that revenue has gone towards meeting the cost of installing the electronic system which they have (presumably) used taxpayers’ money to pay for.

They have made a very damaging mistake and should have the courage to admit it and suspend the tolls.
