Government to create anti-corruption squad

THE GOVERNMENT is to set up a special unit of the Policia Judiciária (PJ) to fight corruption.

This special division, which will have members trained and specialised in various forms of corruption, is to be created in the wake of the changes to the current PJ law giving police sweeping new powers.

However, the details of these new powers and the make-up of the special branch will only be known early next year.

The measure was announced in parliament last week by Justice Minister, Alberto Costa.
