Government responds to EN125 redevelopment saga

Conclusion of redevelopment works on the EN125 is expected in April 2013, announced the government.

Responding to questions posed by the PCP parliamentary group on May 5 about the suspension of works on the Algarve road, a source from the Ministry of Economy and Employment said in a recent statement: “According to information from the national road authority Estradas de Portugal, conclusion of the EN125 works is expected in April 2013. Work was suspended because of financing issues involving one of the sub-concessions and will resume once these difficulties are overcome.”

The PCP party described the government’s response to a matter of great important to the Algarve as “vague”.

“Once again work on the EN125 is postponed,” it said in a statement to the press. “This, plus the government’s insistence on keeping the tolls on the A22 just shows how insensitive it is to issues that are affecting the region economically and socially.”
