Government recruits foreign doctors

news: Government recruits foreign doctors

TO SOLVE a nationwide shortage of 500 doctors, the Portuguese government is to recruit them from abroad.

Health Minister António Correia de Campos announced recently a partnership with the Gulbenkian Foundation to increase the number of GPs by recruiting foreign medical university graduates. At present, there are 100 foreign doctors integrated into the Portuguese National Health Service, many of them from Spain, working in the capital’s hospitals. The minister did not specify from which countries the health professionals would be taken, saying only that, providing the doctors had the right qualifications, they could be from any country.
