On the day Portugal’s medical association says hundreds of patients are giving up on the national health system as they cannot afford the charges, health minister Paulo Macedo has gone on record to confirm that the government plans to reduce controversial “taxas moderadoras” in 2015. Both announcements were made to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the launch of Portugal’s state health system (SNS).
