Government officials to attend Algarve seminar on local lodging

A seminar on local lodging as an asset to the Algarve tourism industry is being held on April 21 at Faro’s Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo from 2pm to 6.30pm.

Organised by Safe Communities Algarve and Turismo do Algarve, the seminar will be attended by the Secretary of State for Tourism Adolfo Mesquita Nunes, among other officials, and is being described as a “one-stop-shop event for property letting and management agencies and property owners”.

With the new local lodging (Alojamento Local) regulations now in effect, the seminar will provide all the necessary information to ensure compliance with the new legislation.

The panel of speakers includes the Secretary of State for Tourism, the president of Turismo do Algarve, the president of Safe Communities Algarve, the president of AMAL (Algarve Municipalities Association), the Mayor of Faro and representatives from Turismo de Portugal, Autoridade de Segurança Alimentar e Económica (ASAE); Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF), the GNR, the Polícia Judiciária and the newly-formed national association of local lodging establishments (NALLE).

The seminar will cover all aspects of the new local lodging legislation, plus the role of ASAE in enforcement, fiscal compliance, the reporting procedure to SEF, crime prevention and responsibility of owners concerning villa safety and the safeguarding of online villa bookings to reduce the risk of fraud.

“The bringing together of all these entities, and the attendance of the Secretary of State for Tourism, reflects the importance of this subject and all those involved in the letting and management of properties are advised to attend,” said David Thomas from Safe Communities Algarve.

The event is being held in English. Entrance is free and places are limited.
