Portugal’s secretary of state for tourism, trade and services, Nuno Fazenda, has been in the Castelo Branco district today promoting the government’s plan to “project the Serra da Estrela” brand as a way of helping the fire-decimated region towards economic recovery. Six municipalities were ravaged by wildfires that tore through the iconic ‘serra’ over 11 days last summer. Various aid and support packages have been enacted, but now the focus is on “affirming an agenda for tourism within Portugal’s interior”, says Mr Fazenda.
