Government approves new project for (same stretch) of Algarve’s EN125

This time using EU money…

Today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers has approved a resolution that “orders Infraestruturas de Portugal (the entity overseeing roads) to promote a series of outstanding works on the Algarve’s EN125 highway”.

These works were approved almost 15 years ago, but never enacted.

Minister for Infrastructures João Galamba explained that this time round the government has EU money to use.

He described the resolution as a “step in the direction of accelerating the RRP projects” (RRP funding conceived for ‘the recovery and resilience of member states post Covid pandemic).

Once again, the promise to drivers is the “variante de Olhão” (Olhão bypass), which will take 20,000 cars out of Olhão per day – cars that do not want to be in Olhão, but have to be because they are on the EN125…

As Mr Galamba said, “it is a situation that has been long demanded by the region”.
