Vila do Bispo to host ‘Festival do Perceve’ in September
Vila do Bispo is preparing to host another edition of ‘Festival do Perceve’, which will take place between September 1-3 near the São Vicente school.
The event every year attracts thousands of visitors to the small town to try “one of the Algarve’s biggest culinary delights”: ‘perceves’ (goose barnacles in English).
While goose barnacles will take centre stage, there will be a wide variety of seafood to enjoy, from mussels, whelks and limpets to octopus, corn porridge, fried eel and much more.
But there is much more than just food at the event. There will also be several stalls selling a range of regional sweets and products as well as handicraft, while a musical line-up has also been announced which includes ‘A Kind of Queen – Tribute to Queen’ on September 1, a party hosted by Portuguese radio station M80 on September 2, and a performance by the Adiafa group on September 3.
The event runs from 5pm on September 1 and 1pm on September 2 and 3 to 1am on September 1 and 3 and 2am on September 2.
The festival, which is organised by Vila do Bispo Council in partnership with the Association of Mariscadores (Shellfish Gatherers) of Vila do Bispo and Costa Vicentina, aims to “invigorate the local community, attract tourists, and boost the local economy through one of the region’s most cherished culinary assets.”
Tickets will go on sale on Monday, August 21 and can be purchased online, at the local council’s treasury services (until 3pm on September 1) or at the venue on the days of the event.
