Good spirit reigns at Bowls Algarve Inter Club Championship finals

After five months of fierce competition, the finals of this year’s Bowls Algarve Inter Club Championships were held on March 7 and 8 at a very windy Parque da Floresta bowling green.
Although a number of bowlers were forced to forfeit due to illness or bereavement, the finals were played in “good spirit, humour and excellent bowling”, said the organisers Algarve Bowls.
At the end of the day, four of the five member clubs ended up with some silverware.
Champions included:
– L. Freeman, from Tavira Lawn Bowls, in Lady’s Singles
– S. Greenwood, from Balaia Bowling Club, in Men’s Singles
– C. Webb and C. Laskey, from Alvor Bowling Club, in Lady’s Pairs
– S. Kirk and B. Seed, from Alvor Bowling Club, in Men’s Pairs
– J. Clarke and J. Jones, from Alvor Bowling Club, in Mixed Pairs
– R. Wright, K. Catherall and G. Humphreys, from Parque da Floresta Bowls Club, in Triples
– R. Cane, G. Herrtage, K. Catherall and J. Wright, from Parque da Floresta Bowls Club, in Fours
– C. Laskey, J. Clarke, J. Pendley and J. Jones, from Alvor Bowling Club, in Mixed Fours
The organisers congratulated the winners, as well as the runners up, who “performed very well to get to this stage of the competition”. They also thanked George Humphreys and Lynne Riddle from the Parque da Floresta club for hosting the finals, and Connie Borrell from the Alvor club for “six months of dedicated work administering and overseeing the competition”.
