news: Good results for capital’s hotels

HOTELS in the Lisbon area have recorded “very positive” results for 2004, according to figures released recently by the Associação de Turismo de Lisboa. The good results are due in the main to Portugal’s staging of Euro 2004, as many matches were played in Lisbon. Room occupation rates between January and November increased on average by 3.5 per cent against those recorded in 2003, giving an occupation level of 59.8 per cent. The capital’s five-star hotels were the best performers, recording an increase of 6.1 per cent. Over the same period, the average price per room also increased by an average of 13.3 per cent. In contrast to this buoyant news, “small losses” were recorded in the month of November.
