A 47-year-old primary school teacher was killed on Monday as she returned to school with a colleague from lunch. The accident appears to have happened when mother-of-one Anabela Cardoso was approaching the zebra crossing “a few metres from the school”.
A grey Ford is described as “skidding, rolling over and ploughing into the teachers” with a “huge bang”. Anabela Cardoso’s colleague Susete Dias, 37, as well as the driver were also hurt.
She is understood to have been admitted to Porto’s Santo António hospital while the Ford driver is described as “recovering in hospital”.
Meantime, São Pedro da Cova primary school closed for the day, as a mark of respect for its much-loved teacher.
According to a report in Jornal de Notícias, the stretch of road on Estrada Dom Miguel is notorious – having been the site of another pedestrian death only two months ago.
